The Great Silk Road is an amazing creation of mankind, a
transcontinental road that connected the ancient civilizations
of West and East and served not only for mutually beneficial
trade, but for a religious, cultural, scientific and technical
achievement exchange.
The Great Silk Road was given its name in the 19 century by
the geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen. The first silk
trading road was paved in II century B. C. and existed till
XVI century A. D. This unique pathway, combining the miracle
of engineering technology and human minds, imposing remains of
which have been saved to nowadays, passed through Central Asia. It
was a comfortable trading road with watch towers, supporting
buildings and other comforts, safely protected by constantly
moving troops.
The ancient trade cities situated along the
Silk Road overcame many devastating wars, destruction, fires, famines and
deaths. Some of them disappeared from the face of Earth,
leaving only anonymous ruins, other were burnt and perished
several times, but were built anew to strike the world by
their wealth, the blue of the domes and beautiful terra-cotta
facades of mausoleums and mosques.
For hundreds of years these along dusty caravan roads carried
people to the noisy Eastern markets. They sgss precious silk and stones, spices and dye stuffs,
gold and silver, exotic birds and animals to Europeans.
