The tea is an aromatic beverage, which has spread all over the world and earned the love of many gourmets. It has been used in many cuisines for more than 5 thousand years. The homeland of tea is China, in the southern provinces of which the first plantations of tea bushes were located. For a long time the secret of making tea had been unknown, so it was introduced in Europe from Russia in the 17 century. Tea was brought from China to Russia by the caravan trade road, which entered history under the name of "Great Tea Road". The Tea caravans were formed in Kashgar city in China, then moved through the territory of Mongolia to Troitseslavsk city (now Cachet) on the Russian border, founded in 1727. Kyachta became the largest tea trading centre, providing tea not only to the whole Russia but to many European countries.

The Great Tea Road extended for 9-10 thousand kilometers. It took more than one year for a tea caravan with to finish the journey.

" Baikal Travel Co." invites you to make a fascinating journey along the Great Tea Road, to visit countries, the scent of history of which could only be compared to the best tea fragrance . The length of tour is 10 days, during which you'll see China - the homeland of the tea, Mongolia - the country of great caravan roads, and the old Siberian cities Cachet, Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk.

  

Day 1. Your tour begins in China - the homeland of the aromatic tea beverage. China is a country that is rightly famous not only for its great history and culture, but also for its natural beauty. After arrival to Beijing, the capital of China, you will be accommodated and have a rest in one of the best hotels of the city, then you'll have dinner of Chinese cuisine.

Day 2. After breakfast you'll make a trip to one of wonders of the world - The Great Wall. It was built by the hands of many generations of Chinese. An experienced guide will accompany you on the trip to this famous architectural and historic monument. You'll remember forever the lunch by this stone wonder of the world. In the afternoon you'll visit the Ming Tombs - resting place of the famous Ming Dynasty emperors of China.

Day 3. A visit to the famous Tian An Men Square, where in 1949 "New China" was proclaimed. Not far from Beijing you'll visit the Summer Palace - former residence of the Qing emperors. The unique ambiance of this palace will impress you.

Day 4. After breakfast you leave Beijing by plane. The next stage of your journey along the Great Tea Road is Mongolia, a country of always blue sky. After arrival and accommodation at the Ulaan-Baatar hotel , you'll visit the active Gandan Buddhist monastery during a city tour. At night - dinner of Mongolian national cuisine and Mongolian tea.

Day 5. Breakfast and on the road! You'll travel by car along the same way, where centuries ago the tea caravans passed. You'll journey for more than 300 km, admiring unique landscapes of Mongolia, observing herds of sheep, horses, camels by the roadside. You'll be accommodated for the night in the second largest city of Mongolia - Darhan.

  

Day 6. The road calls you again. You will move to the Russian border to the city Kyachta. It was here where the caravans of Great Tea Road passed. After short rest and dinner, you will have a chance to visit the Obruchov Local Lore museum, which a real treasure house of unique jewels of the Baikal region and you will learn about the history of the region and the Tea Road, about the flora and fauna of Buryatia.

Day 7. From Kyachta you'll move on to Novoselenginsk - a historic site, built as a wooden fortress in 1665. It was a place of exile of Decembrists and British missionaries in the Baikal region. You'll visit the museum of Decembrists, which exhibition will tell you about the history of the Decembrists' movement in Russia and its participants. On a even asphalt road you'll reach the capital of Buryatia - Ulan-Ude city. Here the taiga landscapes are in sharp contrast to the boundless Mongolian steppes. During the journey you'll visit Ivolguinsky Datsun, the residence of the Supreme Lama of Russia. In Ulan-Ude you will be accommodated at "Guesser or Buryatia" hotel, whose restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and sauna are at your disposal .

Day 8. You continue your fascinating journey into the history of the Great Tea Road either on motor vehicles or by train.

After breakfast you depart to the south cost of Lake Baikal to Baikalsk city. Trip will take about 4 hours. During the journey you will enjoy splendid views of Lake Baikal - the deepest and cleanest freshwater lake in the world. Stop for the dinner in Baikalsk restaurant "By the lake" and back into the road. After 3 more hours of travel along the road, encircled by Siberian taiga, you arrive in Irkutsk, the city from which tea was dispatched to the Russian fairs and then to Europe. Day 9. City tour to the main places of interest of Irkutsk: the historic ensemble of two Churches in Siberian baroque style, The Sign of the Cross church, the Museum of Local Lore, which tells you about the 300 years history of the region. You'll see a old Siberian city, which remembers the arrival of the great Tea caravans from China. In the afternoon according to your desire we'll organize a trip to Listvyanka settlement on the shore of Lake Baikal, which is called "Gates to Lake Baikal".
